APPROVAL OF MINUTES:On a motion by Skandia, seconded by Champion Twp the minutes from the February 15th meeting were approved 12-0.

The Treasurer was absent no report provided. 

PUBLIC COMMENT:  Charles Pelky from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) was present and discussed fundraising activities for MDA. “Fill the boot” drive has been a long lasting charity between fire fighters and MDA. Charles made the suggestion to bring the charity to Marquette County.

 OLD BUSINESS:   A committee was formed to look into a vcr/dvd player and tv for smoke house. Also a trailer and trailer hitch will be needed. 

.NEW BUSINESS:   A Pigs’n’Heat representative will attend our county meeting next year for distribution of tickets. A date will be sent out. 

COMMITTEES: 

            Training Committee: FFI & II classes have adjourned. Results should be available in 4-12 weeks.  

A tanker shuttle class will be held on 5/15. Contact Miron from Forsyth Twp. for further info. 

*Anyone with members interested in becoming a instructor for FFI &II contact Tom Kidd.  

            Central Dispatch: Anderson has completed work on the radio towers; inspections and FCC license must be obtained before we begin use.

            *Each department should contact their radio technician company to see if your radios need to be reprogrammed.

            *As of 4/1/05 central dispatch will readjust their maintenance fees according to department use.

Absent: Ishpeming City, Marquette City, Marquette Township, Negaunee City, MFFTC and Powell Township.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On a motion by Skandia, seconded by Negaunee Twp the minutes from the December 14th meeting were approved 12-0.

The 2005 schedule will be attached to these minutes.

PUBLIC COMMENT: None.

COMMUNICATIONS IN: The association received a letter from the Marquette County Central Dispatch Policy Board advising that Dan Everson missed five of twelve meetings held in 2004. Dan was contacted by President Kidd and advised him that he has made arrangements to attend the meetings. The consensus of the group was to allow Dan to continue as a representative but we will monitor his attendance record

COMMUNICATIONS OUT: None

OLD BUSINESS: Fire safety house: the paperwork has been completed and the house was delivered to Negaunee Twp.

* Need TV and VCR: Gary Johnson will contact local department stores to seek donations.

* Need an updated video; if a department has a good video please let Tom Kidd know.

* Need to set cost for use of the house.

* Need to set up schedule and possible insurance.

It was felt that it would be the easiest if one department would take responsibility for the house; Negaunee Twp will look into doing this. Terry Poupore also advised a department maybe able to get a truck suitable for pulling the house through GSA if they are willing to run it as brush fire unit.

NEW BUSINESS: Nominations needed for Fire Fighter of the Year to be awarded during the Pigs- N – Heat game.

On a motion by Chocolay Twp seconded by Negaunee Twp to award the Fire Fighter of the Year to the entire shift from Marquette City Fire that rescued the two females from a house fire. Also, a special recognition for Elmer Hilderbrand for his fifty plus years of fire service, motion passed 12-0.

Champion and Republic Twp did not receive their Pigs-N-Heat tickets. Departments are reminded to send a representative to the Pigs-N-Heat meetings.

Mike Farrell has resigned as secretary. On a motion by Chocolay Twp seconded by Richmond Twp appointing Jamie Martin from Chocolay Twp as new secretary, passed 12-0.

There was discussion on changing the fine structure for missed meetings. On a motion by Negaunee Twp supported by Richmond Twp to access a $10 fine for first absence, $20 for seconded and $30 for the third, after the third absence the department will lose its vote until fines are paid. Motion passed 12-0.

COMMITTEES:

Training Committee: FFI & II exams have been moved: the written exam will be held on Friday April 1st at 6pm. The practical exam will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 8am, both will be administered at the Negaunee City Fire Hall.

There was discussion on charging those people who are challenging the exams. On a motion by Wells Twp seconded by Negaunee Twp a fee of $15.00 shall be assessed to those who are challenging the exams, passed 12-0.

Central Dispatch: Discussed the letter that was sent to each agency regarding the reconfiguration of the VHF radio system. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Gary Johnson at 475-1196.

OPEN DISCUSSION: Skandia reported that at a recent structure fire they used the Red Cross in conjunction with the Pigs N Heat fund and was able to provide six days in a motel and help with clothing and other needs. The encouraged everyone to make use of the Red Cross it is a great addition to the Pigs N Heat fund.

DNR: Terry asked everyone to be sure to apply for the DNR grant, if you miss a year you will drop to the bottom of the list. He also inquired if there was interest in a Wild Land Fire Behavior and Wild Land Fire Suppression classes in March if so contact Terry. The DNR will be short staffed this fire season, they are looking for some part time help if you have 2 yrs firefighting and a CDL go to Michigan.gov to apply.

Approval of Minutes: Approval of the October 19th minutes, motion by Negaunee Township seconded by Republic Township carried 10-0.

Approval of the August 1st  minutes, motion by Champion Township seconded by Richmond Township carried 10-0.

Public Comment: None.

Communications In: Letter from Brian Naze, Marquette City Fire, he is a senior citizen advisory board which will be having a conference on June 23, 2005 at the Negaunee Township Hall. Brian is seeking volunteers to staff a Fire Safety booth at this conference from 10am­2pm. We will continue to remind everyone of this at our meetings since this event is so far off.

Letter from Chief Tom Belt, Marquette City Fire, they are taking delivery of a new smoke house and would like to donate the old fire safety house to the association. We need a location to store the house; we will work with Negaunee Township to see if it can be housed at their facility. Further discussion will be needed to set out fee schedule and who will coordinate the use of the house. Motion by Chocolay Township seconded by Negaunee Township to accept the house, carried 10-0.

Communications Out: Letter to Marquette County Clerk's Office designating Andrew Lusardi as a

MCFF A representative on the Central Dispatch Policy Board

Old Business: None

New Business: The DNR is down two more fire officers, their staffing is now at five, should be eight, statewide they are down a total of eighteen fire officers, unlikely any new officers will be hired. There is talk once again of possible field office closings, Terry will keep us up to date.

Committee Reports:

Training Committee: Tom Kidd asked departments if they had anyone interested in challenging FFI or II tests. Paperwork must be submitted by the first week of January. Forms are available on the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council web site.

Central Dispatch: Gary Johnson reported that the Local Emergency Planning Team met and finalized the grant awards for the EMD funding. Fire Departments faired very well, and notices should by going out within the next week or two. Departments will have to follow their Township's or City's purchasing policy and will have to submit a final price quote before the item is ordered. The County will cover the cost of the item purchased, so individual departments will only need to submit an invoice to Teresa. Included in this grant is an air compressor for 131, they will be able to fill 4500psi cylinders for departments.The VHF reconfiguration project has started, Anderson Communication will be doing the tower work, was supposed to be completed by December 315\ Central will keep departments informed of the progress of this project.
